The social process including the entire gamut of human activities relating to economic, religious and political pursuits. The relevance of history to the region known as the Punjab cannot be overemphasized, as its civilisational attainments have been of an enduring nature throughout its history of 5000 years or more. In fact, the culture of the Punjab, which blossomed well before the Christian era, gave successive generations of the Punjabis a mindset, a value system and a way of living which, despite the passage of time and enormous growth in population , have been retained with remarkable continuity.
